My writing spans essays, small book projects, and long-form nonfiction, with a focus on language, myth, identity, and independent publishing.
Current Project: Mythic Women of Ireland
What do ancient Irish myths still have to say to us—especially when we return to them later in life, with curiosity rather than certainty?
This ongoing booklet series explores Irish mythic figures—particularly women—through retelling, reflection, and cultural context. Each small, independently published booklet invites readers to slow down and spend time with a single story, rooted in place and tradition, while considering how these ancient voices still speak into modern lives.
These booklets are written for curious, thoughtful readers drawn to Irish culture, language, and mythology, and for anyone who believes learning and creative exploration do not have an expiration date. No background in mythology or Irish studies is required—only a willingness to listen.
Each booklet includes:
• A retelling of an Irish myth rooted in place
• Cultural and historical context
• A personal reflection on identity and belonging
• An invitation to consider how the story resonates today
Each booklet stands on its own while also forming part of a larger conversation about language, culture, and lifelong learning.
Fairsing Publishing: My Independent Publishing Imprint
Fairsing Publishing is the name of my independent publishing imprint. The word fairsing (pronounced far-shing) is Irish for “far-reaching,” “expansive,” and “open-hearted,” and it reflects how I approach making work.
Through Fairsing, I publish small, intentional projects such as booklets, essays, and limited-run works that value independence, care, and collaboration over scale. This practice grew alongside my study of the Irish language and my interest in learning by doing, experimenting, and working outside traditional publishing models.
Fairsing is not a fixed destination but an ongoing exploration of what it means to make thoughtful work in conversation with writers, editors, designers, printers, and readers along the way.
Earlier Work: In Search of Giants
In Search of Giants: The Quest to Find the Genetic Giants of Northern Ireland, co-written with historian Brendan Holland, explores the science, history, and lived experience of genetic gigantism. The book weaves personal narrative with research into a rare genetic mutation found in Northern Ireland, alongside the folklore and landscape of the region.
